Your international workforce will likely include locals, but it may also include nonnationals from your parent company. In Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, you’ll need to make sure nonnational workers have the appropriate visas and permits for legal employment on the islands.
Types of Work Visas in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines offers a basic entry visa that certain nonnationals need to enter the country. Applicants must obtain an entry visa if they’re from the following countries:
- Dominican Republic
- Lebanon
- Jordan
- Iran
- Iraq
- Nigeria
- China
- Syria
Other nonnationals can enter without a visa and receive clearance from Immigration upon reaching the border. Every visitor will receive a specified period of stay when they arrive.
Visitors wishing to work in the country will need to apply for a work permit, a separate process from visa-related applications.
Requirements to Obtain Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Work Visas
All nonnationals will need a valid passport upon entering the country. If an applicant needs an entry visa, they’ll also need to provide:
- Proof of financial stability
- Proof of accommodation
- Employment status if intending to work in the country
- An invitational letter from a sponsor
- A police record from their most recent place of residence
Nonnationals can obtain work permits through a separate application. The necessary materials include:
- A letter from the employer
- Proof the position has been advertised
- A medical certificate
- A Police Certificate of Character from the most recent place of residence
- Two passport-sized photos
- A copy of a valid passport
An applicant must present these materials with a complete application form and a nonrefundable application fee.
Application Process
Applicants in the countries listed above must apply for an entry visa through their nearest consulate or send the application and relevant materials to the Ministry of National Security. Nationals from countries not listed can arrive at the border with their valid passport.
Applicants needing a work permit can apply before or after entering the country as long as they have a valid permit before employment commences. Nonnationals must collect all necessary materials listed above. As an employer, you’ll need to provide a letter offering the job.
The applicant should send a completed application and attached materials to the Office of the Prime Minister, where the work permit department is located. The Cabinet will review the application and send an official work permit once they process the materials.
Other Important Considerations
Every applicant will owe a nonrefundable EC$200 application fee. Permit holders must also pay an annual fee every time they renew. These fees will vary depending on the country of origin. Additional fees are as follows:
- EC$960 for Caribbean Community (CARICOM) nationals
- EC$700 for 30 days
- EC$1,400 for 60 days
- EC$2,100 for 90 days
- EC$2,400 for 90 days to 12 months
Work permits must be renewed annually. If a permit holder plans to stay in the country for longer than six months, they’ll also need to apply for temporary or permanent residence. Residency permit applications require similar materials to work permit applications. Permit holders will need:
- A Police Certificate of Character
- Two passport-sized photos
- A copy of their passport
- A recent bank statement or other proof of financial stability
- Birth and marriage certificates if applicable
- A medical certificate
Applicants should submit these materials with a complete application to the Residency Department at the Office of the Prime Minister.
